Cangene in the Community

our company

Cangene strives to promote health, wellness and education in our communities. Our patients, employees and neighbours are important to us and we contribute to a range of organizations and activities that support education, enhance patients’ lives, foster a greater understanding of science and medicines, and improve our communities.

Here is a selection of our community connections:

The Children’s Cancer & Blood Foundation

The Children's Cancer & Blood Foundation (CCBF) is the largest and oldest charitable organization in the U.S. dedicated to the care of children suffering from cancers and blood disorders. Including our contribution, the CCBF raised over $1 million at its 2010 benefit gala. Cangene has been an active sponsor of this event since 2006.
Funds generated from the gala enable the CCBF to provide much needed medication, chemotherapy and other life-saving treatments to children through its support of the Division of Pediatric Hematology and Oncology. The CCBF works to ensure no child is ever turned away for services, regardless of ability to pay. Each year, more than 1,000 children receive treatment through over 10,000 inpatient and outpatient visits. The CCBF’s researchers have received international recognition for their work and are on the cusp of breakthroughs predicted to change the way the medical community cares for children with cancer and blood disorders.

Canadian Liver Foundation

The Canadian Liver Foundation (CLF) is a national organization committed to providing support for research and education into the causes, diagnoses, prevention and treatment of all liver disease. Its mandate is to raise awareness of liver health and to reduce the incidence and impact of all liver disease. There are over 100 forms of liver disease stemming from causes such as viral infection, genetics, cancer or toxins. Cangene supports a number of the CLF’s national and regional programs, such as “Discover the World of Hepatology”, a healthcare professional educational program.

Ronald McDonald House Winnipeg

Ronald McDonald House provides a home away from home for families of children who are undergoing treatment for cancer and other life-threatening illnesses. Cangene has sponsored Ronald McDonald House for several years, and in 2010, we chose the House as our charity recipient for the holiday season.

The Children’s Hospital Foundation of Manitoba

The Teddy Bears’ Picnic is one of the key events that support The Children’s Hospital Foundation of Manitoba. The Foundation is an independent agency that raises and distributes funds for the advancement of knowledge and care in the fields of child health and research, thereby contributing to the improved well-being of children everywhere. The event celebrated its 25th anniversary in 2011 and Cangene has been a sponsor for more than ten of those years.

Canada-Wide Science Fair

The Canada-Wide Science Fair (CWSF) is the marquis event of Youth Science Canada, a leading organization for the promotion of innovation and the celebration of excellence in science and technology among Canada’s youth. Cangene’s has sponsored the event for three years, and in 2011 we created the Cangene Award, which is presented in recognition of outstanding projects related to biotechnology or biopharmaceuticals in three age categories.

United Way

Cangene also supports our communities through donations to the United Way, which works to promote positive change by addressing underlying causes of social issues. With a combination of corporate giving and fostering employee participation in events that raise funds, we have been a significant supporter of the United Way for several years.

We are in the process of developing a sponsorship policy as well as a formalized process for submitting requests for support. Please check back later for more details.
